So Very Busy...

So last week was a little crazy... we had lots of things to do to get ready for several biggish events, including...

1. Music Camp
The girls had a week long camp where they learned an entire play & performed it on friday night. It was awesome. They had a great time, and in between the massive amount of work I had to do last week, I got to help work on the sets & watch them practice. Ella cried when it was all over- she apparently wants every week to be Music Camp.

2. 4th of July Parade
I was Assistant Coordinator for the town's big parade this year (the hospital sponsors it, so we get to run the whole show.) Fun times. Guess how much work goes into making a parade run smoothly? It's probably much, much more than you think. It's even better when it's 85 degrees outside and you are trying to get figure out where the 17 horses and the MARIACHI BAND came from and where the heck you should put them (hint- if you would like to have your huge herd of horses and 24 piece band in a local parade, please register them in advance. PLEASE. Also, our neighborhood got together & made a little float (we don't even drink, and this sounded like a good idea. Insane.) and all the kids got to be in it. They thought it was fun. I actually found this picture on a website that had a few shots from the parade, and it appears that they qualify as a highlight. After the parade (and after hauling 7000 pounds of parade-related junk back to the hospital. And after figuring out what to do with the 7 foot inflatable birthday cakes we had used on the Hospital float) we did the annual neighborhood fireworks show and barbeque. Grace almost got blown up by a random un-exploded parachute guy and spent the rest of the night hiding under a blanket.

3. Birthday Party
Since Grace & Ella's birthdays are so close together, we try to do a big joint party (mostly so I do not go completely insane.) This year we rented out the little local movie theater for everyone & watched "Ice Age 3." Afterwords, we went across the street and had cake and let the kids run around in circles. It was fun having the movie theater all to ourselves- the girls thought it was pretty cool and it was so great having a built-in party activity. My least favorite part of birthday party-coordination is coming up with something to keep small children occupied. I drug my camera bag all over the place and ended up with exactly ONE picture of the girls together, AFTER all their friends had left. And they are both squinting, but whatever (also- cake frosting + Nikon = AAAHHH.)

Remind me to always CHECK MY FREAKING CALENDAR before committing to several things in the same weekend again. And if I insist that it will be fine, HIT ME ON THE HEAD. Or buy me a large amount of ibuprofen, because I will definitely be needing it.

"Hit me on the head" command received. Action guaranteed when necessary.

We have two parades here were I live - the Palominas Unofficial & Unorganized Christmas Parade, and the Palominas U&U Fourth of July Parade. Everyone who has made a float, is riding horses, is walking their dogs, and the three fire trucks all bunch up around the fire station, start randomly when there is an opening, and ends up around the Palominas Trading Post.

It reflects my own unstructured and artless attitude perfectly.

So where do you want the ibuprofen sent?
